The project titled, “iTaxi” was a proof of concept that was developed to show what an in-taxi kiosk might look like using G-NET Vehicle Mount Computer hardware and custom software developed by G-NET. The iTaxi interface featured an intuitive graphical user interface which allowed passengers of the taxi cab to navigate easily through the available features found on the system. The software featured an integrated news reader, web browser, hotel searching and booking application, restaurant database, attractions database, video player and advertisement delivery console. The entire software interface could be navigated using the on board touch screen LCD. The beauty of the system is that it is easy to maintain and update even when installed into hundreds of taxi cabs. Each taxi cab would feature a G-NET Vehicle Mount Computer with wireless internet card, and once a day the taxi cab on board computer would sync with a central server to update all of the database and news information. The wireless internet connection also provided a way to update and track the advertisements displayed on the in-vehicle kiosk.
Once again, the solution demonstrated above is merely a proof of concept, but truly does demonstrate the power that an intelligent vehicle mounted computer installed in a taxi cab, limo or bus could have.
